What material is your windshield made of

You may already hear about materials like Polycarbonate, Lexan, Acrylic, and Plexiglass, but do you know their features and how to maintain them? I will list three models to demonstrate.

Glass windshield—— You can easily know what it is as its name. Most of the glass has a coating or layer to strengthen its sturdy. Understanding the facts about your windshield is critical so that you do not damage the coating during cleaning. Glass windshields are uncommon in UTVs due to the nature of the machine. Riding very fast on rough terrain and through trails where many large obstacles can fly over and crash into them is not ideal and breaks easily.

Acrylic windshield—— Acrylic windshields are more common than glass windshields. They are durable and scratch-resistant, usually known as Plexiglass. When you come across mud and debris on the road. Acrylic is approximately ten times stronger than glass but is not indestructible. It can withstand a strong impact from a rock or branch, but it may be scratched. You need to clean it carefully.

Polycarbonate windshields ——are the most durable of the three materials, but they are easily scratched. To avoid scratches, we recommend that your polycarbonate windshield be hard-coated. Don't worry about the coating; you can still easily clean the polycarbonate windshield. Your machine becomes dirtier the harder you ride. If you want your polycarbonate to endure, it's critical to know how to clean and maintain it. Of the three materials above, we most recommend using polycarbonate windshields, as it is the hardest and most suitable for your tough UTV ride, and all Kemimoto windshields are made of this material.

What tools you should prepare for the UTV cleaning

  • Garden hose/Pressure washer: The hose is used to rinse off your UTV's windshield,  and a pressure washer can work faster and better.
  • A spray bottle with a water/soap mixture: A bottle to store the soap and water mixture so that you can easily spray on the surface. Kemimoto has a specific Windshield Washer Pump Reservoir Bottle Kit to keep your solution.
  • Soap: Soap is used to break down and soften stains. Then you can get the stains out of the surface. You can also choose baby shampoo, dishwashing liquid, or a special cleaning agent.
  • Glove & Cloth: If you are a very careful cleaner, you need to try the glove to not make your fingerprint leave on the surface. And the cloth is for absorbing and wiping the soap away.

Best Way to Clean UTV windshield

You need to care about some point when cleaning the UTV windshield. Your duty can be reduced if you can before heading out to prep your acrylic or polycarbonate windshield with clear plastic polish or wax. This will make it harder for mud and grime to stick to the surface.

The ideal way to clean the UTV windshield is always using a gentle, non-abrasive substance for washing any kind of windshield.

Glass windshield—— Glass is the easiest to clean, but you need to be careful if you have any kind of coating or tinting. We recommend using a mild soap such as dish soap and water. Alternatively, white distilled vinegar can be mixed with water to break down oily dirt built up over time. We do not recommend any cleaners as they will damage the windshield material.

Acrylic windshield—— Acrylic windshields require gentle handling. Use mild soap and water, and a microfiber absorbent cloth. Never use paper towels or ammonia-based cleaners, abrasive cleaners, or even dry clothes, as they can permanently damage the surface. Especially when you have no soap water above your windshields surface.

Polycarbonate windshields ——Polycarbonate is a naturally clear thermoplastic that transmits light almost as well as glass and can withstand impact better than many other commonly used plastics. Still, we recommend you apply the coating immediately after purchase, and if your windshield has become soiled, we still recommend a combination of mild soapy water and a microfiber cloth.

Clean step in detail

Take the polycarbonate windshield as an example cause most of the windshields in the market are of this type.

Step 1: Start by spraying the windshield with warm soapy water.

Step 2: After applying the dirty windshield to the water, use a microfiber cloth to gently wipe it back and forth.

Step 3: Flip onto a clean cloth after each pass so the cloth can fully absorb dirt particles.

Step 4: After gently wiping away all the goo and debris from the windshield, it's time to rinse. Gently pour or spray water on the windshield to rinse off any soap.

Tips:

Never use circular motions when cleaning polycarbonate. Back and forth is better because you push the dirt to the sides instead of dragging it around in circles.
